MEET ALEXANDRA
Web Developer & Interactive Storyteller

About

I'm a NYC based web developer with a never-ending drive to learn.

What I do

My experience is in building Ruby on Rails web applications with frontend MV* JavaScript frameworks (Angular, Backbone & React), though I am always looking to grow in other languages and skills as well.

My Story

  • 1992-2010

    Growing Up

I was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where I attended a private Quaker school for 13 years. I moved to NYC upon graduating in 2010.

  • August 2010 - May 2014

    College @ The New School

As an undergraduate at The New School, I majored in Culture & Media Studies and Journalism, graduating with honors in May 2014–earning two awards for academic excellence in addition to my previously held scholarships.

  • June 2014 - September 2014

    Web Development Immersive @ GA

After graduating, I realized that I was interested in web development. I took General Assembly's Web Development Immersive program and was awarded one of Google's Opportunity Fund Fellowships for Women.

  • October 2014 - June 2015

Junior Full Stack Developer @ ArtList

After completing WDI, I joined ArtList–a peer to peer marketplace to buy and sell fine art–where I worked on a team of developers to build their web platform. While working with ArtList, I improved my Ruby and JavaScript skills–learning AngularJS and new design methodologies along the way.

  • July 2015 - Present

    Developer @ Contently

After ArtList, I joined the engineering team at Contently, where I've been able to merge my passions of journalism and web development. At Contently, I have been building new features on their Ruby on Rails and Backbone based platform.

  • February 2016 - Present

Part-time Lecturer @ The New School

In addition to my work as a developer, teaching is one of my passions. I teach students Web Fundamentals (HTML, CSS, & JavaScript) once-a-week at The New School.
